Selling your Art Work

Selling your Art Work

When I moved from London England to Ottawa.  Dale Smith Art Gallery in Ottawa offered me a solo exhibition.  She showed my landscape paintings.  In that show -  nothing sold .  It was very disappointing.

I found it very difficult to understand why nothing sold in that show. I felt I had really created a strong body of work. So when nothing sold - well my spirits were pretty low.

But since that show I have sold every painting in that exhibition.  Inaddition to selling all those piantings I have also sold many other landscape paintings in addition to all those paintings.

In an effort to try to understand why?  What makes a painting sell.  Well I have never understood this.  Perhaps patience is needed.  My mother always told me that I needed to be more patient.

So I keep painting. The beat goes on.  I keep painting. I keep focused on being an artist.  Expression myself. And well as an artist I must continue to distance myself from sales and focus on the the joy of the creative process of making paintings.

Very true,
You cannot paint for money
I paint because its stronger than me
It's something I can't control
The less I think about sales and things of that nature
The better things flow
And in the end it all works out

I do feel that patience is a virtue as the old saying goes.
I too have had pieces that people have loved, but did not purchase and as time past by I thought they would never sell. The pieces eventually sold just out of the blue.

The art world is a fickle thing, unfortunately it is a hit or miss process, yet at the same time commissions do pay the bills!
